  1. One day, maybe the ICC will hear cases against big oil for crimes against humanity and the environment.

    >The American Petroleum Institute and a pair of oil companies filed a petition for certiorari with the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday in a bid to overturn a lower federal court ruling that blocked fracking in public waters off California’s coast.

    ….

    >CBD and the Wishtoyo Foundation sued the Trump administration to stop offshore fracking in 2016. Then-California Attorney General Kamala Harris filed a similar case.

    >In 2018, U.S. District Judge Philip S. Gutierrez ordered a prohibition on permits for offshore fracking in federal waters off California, ruling that the U.S. Department of Interior (DOI) had failed to adhere to multiple federal laws.

    article continues….

  2. At what point do we start weighing the cost of direct action against the future of the planet? Why aren’t people tracking down oil executives and their lobbyists and making their lives miserable?

  3. Why the fuck is the Supreme Court involved in this at all. They are not qualified to even look at it. Let the scientists who study this actually make the decision.

  4. The only reason this is being brought to the SCOTUS is their belief in the conservative, probusiness court jesters will grant them the win.

Welcome to the Corporate States of America.

  5. Once every oil spill is completly cleaned up, and price adjusted to actual environmental cost, we can talk about it again, should there still be an interest, which there will not.

  6. Have the big oil taken a loss of their senses… Don’t they get that all the money in the world can’t buy them a ticket out of the fucking consequences of their useless actions!!

  7. That’s Trump Supreme Court. Time for it to get abolished, Supreme law of the land, this court is a spit on the face of their predecessors. Where law was scrutinized without prejudice. Now it’s a network of self
Interest and corruption at its highest level.

  8. Let’s go to a state that already has high and dangerous seismicity and frack it up!

Why stop the destruction at Oklahoma?

States rights! Until it’s something we want. New hybrid plug ins can get 120 MPG so even if your not ready to 100% EV we can still do better

Yes we need gas but shit if they go an inch they might just upon a gate to hell lol and suddenly earth is crumbling lol

  11. States rights! States rights!….

unless I don’t like what the state is doing.

    Also,

Small Federal government! Small Federal government…

Unless i don’t like what the state is doing

The oil and gas industry may have argued that the regulations imposed by California state regulators are overly restrictive and impede their ability to extract resources from the state’s offshore waters, while the regulators may have argued that the regulations are necessary to protect the environment and public health. The Supreme Court will likely be asked to determine whether the regulations are constitutional and whether they are reasonable and consistent with federal law.

  13. Oh goodie. Gonna keep needing a bigger straw to comllerley kill this solar battery we call the carbon pulse that was trickle charged over millions of years and drained in a couple centuries. Fuel efficient EVs are great but ffs we gotta figure out something other than Jevon’s paradox hamstrung efficiency narratives to wean us off the hydrocarbon crack.

  14. OutrageousNutrition

On Wednesday, the American Petroleum Institute, Exxon Mobil Corp. and DCOR LLC filed a petition for justices to reverse a 2022 ruling from a lower bench that upheld a ban on all new permits for unconventional oil production methods on the Pacific outer continental shelf.

  15. Wow, here we are in 2023, scientists all over the world are sounding the alarm that CO2 is literally creating an existential crisis for humanity and the rest of living creatures on the planet and these mf’ers have the BALLS to ask the Supreme Court to allow them to pillage our natural resources and privatize the profits and further lead us down a shit hole toward global catastrophe.

  16. Are we seriously going to repeat the same mistakes? Yeah let’s introduce more possible oil spills and erosion into the ocean…what could go wrong

  17. If the fully compromised illegitimate court rules in big oils favor, California should just disregard it and continue to not allow them to do anything off shore.

  18. Fossil fuels are so evil. Why do we even need this? Don’t we already have enough oil?? Better yet just buy an electric car and you won’t need oil
