    1. Obviously I agree with the sentiment but two wrongs don’t make a right. Trying to, or promising to out-do the GOP on flouting constitutional norms is not an effective way to get the seats that the Dems need in the House AND Senate to overturn years of government-licensed vandalism and environmental harm.

The trick is to keep Republicans at home by NOT giving them reasons to great freaked out and fired up. Explicitly promising to disregard the constitution will give Fox News more red meat to crank up the Trump base – despite the flagrant hypocrisy, which is really just the norm now.

This assumes we’ll ever have a fair and free election again. People don’t fully understand what we have done in electing Trump or what he represents.

    3. No, our next president should remove the ease with which national emergency/exective orders can subvert the way this country’s processes are supposed to work

    4. I think people misleading and censoring science should be penalized. People are loosing their jobs, silenced or ridiculed with campaigns if they even mention global warming. This is dangerous and it affects all of us.

    5. This is the only real worldwide emergency. And literally nobody is doing near enough to prevent it.

    6. I mean, I partly agree with this due to the urgency involved. But it’s not a good idea, since you couldn’t really declare the emergency as resolved anytime soon and it would last decades

    7. If you want that I suggest you get Sanders or Gabbard in there, every one else is owned by environment destroying corporations.

    8. Get money out of politics and a lot of these emergencies will be solved. We are an oligarchy ruled by our corporate and billionaire overlords.

    9. I love how everyone supports by passing the checks and balances of government now and giving so much power to the presidency instead of demonizing these “National Emergencies” no matter what president is doing it and if he follows your political ideology or not.

    10. As long as democrats are the “opposition,” fuckhead republicans will be calling the shots.

    11. No, the National Emergency Act should be abolished because it goes against the constitution to allow presidents to take control of spending from Congress, while they can call anything an emergency.

    12. Honestly I think that was going to happen anyone before Trumps bonehead move. To be fair I really don’t think the President (whoever it is) should have the power to do anything like this or what Trump is trying to do.

I’m willing to bet at least 4 republicans cross the aisle to oppose the move.

This is the problem with this course of action- you’ve ceded power to the executive branch and fed govt to do ANYTHING it wants in the name of emergency.

Instead of even saying stuff like this articles headline even as an idea, we should all be condemning the govt doing this at all.

It’s taking power from the people. It’s disgusting seeing it happen and people’s reaction is split between apathy and thinking about how their side can also abuse power.

    14. The first and most important national emergency is stopping possible abuse of presidential privileges. Also include other governmental and elected positions

    15. National Emergency powers involve reallocating already appropriated funds. If we declare a national emergency to fight climate change, you could only shift money around. You can’t unilaterally decree new laws and regulations involving emission standards, regulating fossil fuels, etc.

Maybe you can take reallocate subsidies to large corporations and give them to alternative fuel companies. But like I said, you couldn’t unilaterally produce rules and regulations or laws.

But don’t hurt my quality of life in the process just go after people not me and with more money but not celebrities because they deserve yachts lol

    17. Start by attacking the companies that are causing it then get the people behind the new laws but not victims of them.

    18. I said this yesterday. Save our planet before it’s too late. Please vote next election. Regardless of the party, we need a president who believes in climate change.

One cost 5.1 billion and is a wall the other destroys our economy and cost 21 Trillion in 10 years

    20. We also need to declare a national emergency due to the threat of extraterrestrials. We know they are out there and are doing nothing about it.

    21. Morons. Please read the facts. We still lowered emissions without the Paris accord. Fucking explain that shit man? Tired of this fucking nonsense.

This is why I am against trump calling a national emergency. I gives too much power for the president to just yeet congress and get what they want

    23. I think we should first focus on a bigger problem which is plastics. We have patches in the ocean that are square miles big and that is something we can fix soon!

It’s a more important matter than climate change.

I love how people still don’t believe global warming is a real issue, but somehow border security is an emergency despite border crossings steadily decreasing over the last 20 years.
