21st Central Gas in Retail LNG at the Everett Marine Terminal

To capture an early position in the retail LNG market, Distrigas of Massachusetts recently opened a vehicle fueling station at the Everett Marine Terminal outside of Boston. The station allows long-haul vehicles to fill their specially outfitted fuel tanks with LNG, which the terminal has already been supplying to New England power producers for more than 40 years. An increasingly popular alternative to diesel, LNG emits 20 percent less carbon dioxide than diesel fuel, is less expensive, runs quieter and affords vehicles with more power than diesel. That’s an advantage when pulling an 80,000-pound load. Distrigas’ vehicle fueling station is ready to help meet the anticipated 2025 retail LNG market demand of 60 million tons—supplying heavy-goods vehicles, ships and trains—a market 12 times larger than consumption today.
