about 3 weeks ago, i rear ended someone going about
5-8 mph because my breaks locked up after they break checked me. ¡ don't have a dash cam so there's no point in even fighting it. the other car sustained a bit of damage but my car had very little. i didn't file claim with my insurance because i only need a $80 bumper support and i can install it myself. the other car filed a claim on my insurance, got a rental car and now my insurance company wants me to reimburse their deductible for their body work which was simply a rear bumper. I was under the impression that every driver pays their deductible for their own car. shouldn't my full coverage insurance which includes liability cover their damages from the accident. why am i being told to pay someone else's deductible.

are you sure they’re not referring to your own deductible? your insurance wouldn’t ask you to reimburse the other party’s deductible, your premium would just increase.

There is a miscommunication somewhere. You are never expected to pay for the other party’s deductible. If your insurance company is paying for the damage to the other car, they pay out the full cost (unless fault was split and the other company is also making their insured cover part of the cost). In either case, your premium will go up, but you don’t pay the other party’s deductible. Your insurance company handles it. You would only pay a deductible if it was your deductible to fix damage on your car.

If you were at fault (you were) the other party deserved to be made whole. They could also sue you for their deductible.
