My husband is currently stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA. He’s planning on buying a car and we don’t really want to register it in the state of California because of how expensive it is compared to the states we are residents of. I am a resident of Texas and he is a resident of New Jersey. Is he able to register the car in Texas because he is married to me? Or would it be better for the car to be registered under my name, since I am a resident of Texas, then to add him on the registration? Should he just register the car in New Jersey? My car is registered in Texas. Just looking for some insight on this because he has been overseas for the past 6 years and I’ve only been AD for 7 months so I’m not too familiar with the rules regarding car registration for military members.

    1. Texas doesn’t care. California was my state of legal resident. After purchasing my car and houseand living in Texas for 5 years I changed my state of legal residence to reflect Texas and it has been like that ever since.
