Long story short I went to quest for an unusual blood test. The technician pulled me aside and said this could cost $900.

I called my hdhp before proceeding and asked for a confirmation. The rep pulled up my account and the tests I was planning to get and told me I could expect to pay $30-100. I noted the massive discrepancy. The rep responded by telling me "that's because it's a negotiation."

I reluctantly took the tests and, of course, just got a bill for over $900.

Do I have any negotiating power by having a (hopefully recorded) conversation with a rep assuaging my fears that I wouldn't be billed exactly what I ended up being billed?

Do I have any recourse in health cost misinformation?

Have you gotten an EOB from your insurance? That will show what you owe.

Price estimates aren’t binding. You’ll need to refer to your EOB for what you owe.
