Person 1
- Works an office job
- It isn't their dream calling in life, but it's 'stable', low risk, mediocre reward
- Works to make other people money
Person 2
- Works their own venture
- It is their dream calling in life, or at least on the road toward it, high risk high reward
- Works to make themselves money
Society teaches us to treat the Person 2 as insane. if we are in the 9 to 5 work environment and a 'Person 2' emerges and talks about chasing their dream, we are taught to call them insane for not choosing stability and being 'realistic'
I'm a Person 2, and in my opinion, doing anything but the thing you dream about with this one shot at life categorises you as insane
If you're willing to spend your life not doing the thing you want, you're insane
The crazy people in my mind, is anyone
- Doing something they don't want to do, only to impress others with a fancy title
- Those who choose anything but the thing they actually want
- Those who criticise others who want something different from them
This 'rant' spawned from a conversation i overheard recently, they were 2 people in a state of quiet desperation trying to justify why they have accepted not doing what they want, don't end up like these guys
My advice to any Entrepreneur, go the distance, no half measures, full, complete and authentic attempts only

lots of people spend their life settling – being realistic and safe your entire life will not prevent the regret that you feel when you’re older
Preach! Society’s definition of sane is often just a recipe for regret.
This is so inspirational!! Thanks for sharing this
Who is this lecture for, exactly? Forget that you’re romanticizing and misrepresenting the reality of Person 2, but why do you care what people choose to do with their life and who are you to judge Person 1 on such trivial levels?
Stop projecting.
You’re insane if you don’t try. It’s better to fail than to not even try.
Concur. There’s that Nietzsche quote about madness being rare in individuals but the rule in societies. Think it’s pretty much spot-on.
And contrary to some, I think that posts like yours have value! It’s good for all the “people 2” to support each other’s high-risk choices in a forum like this, considering the stress involved.
Neither are insane. Just let people make their decisions and move on.
Your choice is yours and not best for another.
