I am filling out an insurance quote, adjusting the coverage and whatnot. When it initially asked me for the model/make/year of my car, it asked how many accidents I have been in in the past 3 years. With this car only, it was one. but prior to that, I had previous car accident in 2022. I also switched insurances from Kemper to Allstate. I just want to make sure I am understanding this correctly, and I don't want to get dinged on the application.

Should I be putting both accidents, even though it wasn't on the same car? My thinking is yes, but I am second guessing myself right now. Thanks!

    1. Yup. Answer the questions as they’re posed.

If it said “you may exclude X” then exclude it, but it did not for this case

      Put *everything*.
The quote says “as a driver,” and that’s what it means. All accidents, claims, and vehicle damage, even Safelite putting gel in a chip – for *you*, not your car.
Include all moving violations that were not dismissed.
Basically, go worst case scenario for everything that might potentially show up on your MVR or CLUE report.

In fact, go worst-case across the board, if there’s any question in your mind about time frames or occurrences. Reports will be run before you purchase, and discrepancies will hurt your rate, and it hurts worse if you understate or omit things.
If you err on the side of over-disclosure, your rate should be accurate or could even go down after those records are run.

Yes, include both accidents, even if they involved different cars. Insurers usually ask for all accidents within a certain timeframe for accurate risk assessment.
