I've posted this elsewhere, but didn't really get a direct answer. My car insurance is through Progressive.

The short version of the story is this: I received a speeding ticket in Indiana (I live in WI) and the cop claimed it was in a construction zone (with "no workers present"). The markings and reduced speed signs for the construction zone were past where he clocked me, not before. I don't deny the speed I was going, but the construction zone claim changes the severity of my ticket by 15mph.

I could pay the ticket and move on with life, but I don't want to get gouged by my insurance for his mistake for the next several years.

    Or

I could take a day off of work to go to court and fight the ticket to get it reduced. I'm not counting on it getting completely thrown out.

In either scenario, I still have a speeding ticket, and will likely have my insurance premium increased. But does the severity of the ticket matter? Just not sure it is worth the day off of work and the hassle of traffic court in a different state. Would love some insights on the matter. My last infraction was 8-10 years ago, so there shouldn't currently be anything working against me.

Does the severity of a speeding ticket matter to the insurance company?
