If I start active duty later this month, can I request the Amex platinum before I start AD and still get the discount? I would like to have it with me before moving. Thank you

Don’t do it before you are active duty and it often times takes 60ish days of ad to show up in the right system.
Would highly suggest you apply for Amex Gold first, then the Plat which will be better in the long run.
A). You receive both SUBs (sign up bonuses) when you get the Gold and then the Plat, you only get the Plat and not the Gold SUB if you get the Plat first.
B). You earn points faster and easier with dining and groceries 4 x points, Plat is more of your travel leisure benefits card.
C). You are waived annual fees for both cards.
Open a capitalone venture credit before you join. It’s the only card that your annual fee wont be waived if you get it later. If you get it now, then enlist, you can upgrade your venture credit card into a venture x and waive the annual fee under the SCRA. Again, it’s the only credit card company that won’t waive fees for new cards after you joined, they only waive cards you got before.
