We had a small kitchen fire – only real fire damage is to the stove, microwave and cabinets, but there was smoke and soot throughout the house thanks to the ac fan blowing it through the vents. (Everyone is okay)

We have a baby in the house and an adjuster (?) came through and noted some soot on a baby swing and said that since it was a baby item, it'd be a total loss. (I'm not actually sure if it was an adjustor we were just getting ideas of how bad the damage was and it was an offhand comment). I'm just curious as to why that might be and what else I should claim since baby things seem to be in a different category. Like they're cleaning the whole house – not replacing any adult furniture, but it sounds like anything baby needs replacing.

I've washed and sanitized what I can (bottles, clothes, sheets, soft toys) but would there be any reason those wouldn't be safe anymore due to soot/smoke damage? Anything else I should be aware of? Thanks!
