I currently have auto insurance with USAA, is it worth getting renters insurance too? I don’t have a lot of super expensive things in my house, the most expensive things I can think of is my PC, laptop, console, 2 TVs and my mattress.
I feel very safe on base, I doubt I’ll ever get robbed or vandalized, the house has a fire system with sprinklers, I don’t know if it’s worth paying extra monthly money while I could be putting that on emergency savings in case something was to happen

EDIT: will USAA pay for the bill if the housing office tries to charge me for dog pee stains on the carpet or anything of that kind? If that’s the case I think it’ll be worth it

    Renters insurance for on-post housing?

Yes. It’s too cheap not to have, plus every base I’ve been to required it. Get the extra electronics insurance, it’s worth it.

    2. Once upon a time while living on post I bought a laptop for deployment. I kid you not, my son dropped a water balloon on it 🤦‍♂️ Needless to say, I was happy I had USAA renters insurance 😬

Edit: I also had my house broken into at Bliss in some of the old Sergeant Major housing that’s offpost. USAA renters insurance once again to the rescue

You get rental insurance for your property (goods) and the liability of if someone injured themselves while on it for something that’s your fault, not the landlord’s, or say something breaks the landlord goes after you for.

But no, dog pee on the carpet would not be covered I don’t think.

You should get it. USAA even offers the option for the laptop and other electronics to be protected against your own drops or spills.

If you don’t have much, figure out an estimate replacement cost for everything, and then ask USAA to give you a quote – it won’t be much.
