Hi, my wife is looking forward to get her nurse degree and I’m wondering if there’s any way I can transfer my TA to her, since I won’t do college while I’m on my current duty station, or if there’s any other type of assistance program for spouses.
I know I can transfer my GI Bill to her but I also want to do college once I get out.

    1. You cannot transfer Tuition Assistance to your spouse.

Some schools offer reduced tuition for military spouses but you and your wife will have to research which, if any, offer her desired degree and have a discount like that.

There are organizations like the National Military Family Association that offer scholarships, and sometimes the mutual assistance groups offer grants, loans, or scholarships

Edit: one way to save money is transfer a portion of your GI bill benefit to your spouse and you pursue a degree using TA while active. There are lots of schools that offer undergrad degrees with a credit cost matching TA for active duty members.

If your rank is eligible they can use MYCAA funding for an associates.

MYCAA, but that only pays for basic education. No more than an associates. Its not in the Armys interest to allow spouses to make “too much” money.

I say this with all the heart i can. Please be sure before ever, ever considering transferring your GI Bill to a spouse. Not to single out nurses but just imagine the options they will have after graduation.

There are far to many divorce stories that preface on one spouse leveling up after career change. Once transferred, she takes it in divorce and leaves you without.

Same happens with student loans. Keep them in her name. She also takes those in divorce. Never, ever offer to refi those loans in your name.

      Good luck.

    5. You can also transfer a portion of your GI Bill to your dependents. Why not knock out some classes while you’re in anyways?

    6. You’ve replied to each one except people who have recommended MyCAA. So I will say it again, MyCAA! It pays $4000 for a certification across a wide spectrum of eligible routes and schools. Absolutely look into it and do it before your higher rank precludes you from participating. My spouse did and received a ton of study resources and got certified in Medical Billing & Coding.
