Hello everyone I’m hoping someone can help me understand what’s going on because I’m all over the place.

So I got into an accident on May 24th I’m turning left in a 4 way intersection coming straight from the right of way this lady couldn’t wait at the stop sign and tried to come out and hit me. So I have to get a new bumper.

I put the car in the shop I’m 22 and my first accident Progressive told me I just have to pay my $1k deductible. I put the car in the shop yesterday and the mechanic told me I owe him $1.5k-$1.7k for parts. In my head I’m like why do I owe you for parts all that should be coming from Progressive and I told him I don’t have it.

He said tell Progressive to pay me out for the accident and then give him the money because everything is coming straight from Honda nothing is aftermarket. But I thought that was weird and I’m car-less so I called progressive and the lady told me I shouldn’t have to pay for parts and the $1k deductible.

I called again this morning to my claim manager and she said that’s not uncommon and don’t think of it as your own money since we paid you out for the accident.

But in my head it’s like you told me as long as I pay the deductible I’m straight. Maybe it’s because the accident was worth $2.1k and my deductible was $1k if someone could help me I’d GREATLY appreciate it!

Edit: The lady who hit me has been avoiding them at all costs not opening their mail or anything because it wasn’t even her car it was someone else’s car she was driving when she hit me. So we can’t find out what insurance she has or anything.

    Paying for parts and deductible?

    1. Did you go to the dealership?  Speak to your claims adjuster if you don’t have an OEM endorsement or your vehicle isn’t brand new.  Your insurance likely will not pay for official Honda parts if reconditioned LKQ or aftermarket parts are available.

Couple of things going on here. First, did Progressive send you a check for the accident? If so, then yes. You would need to turn around and pay the repair shop. You don’t get a bonus $1.1k check for the accident. That money (what’s left from the $2.1k after your deductible) needs to go towards the repair costs. Or did Progressive send the check straight to the repair shop?

The other part at play here is the idea that the repair shop only used OEM parts, and didn’t use any aftermarket parts. Is this something you requested? Normally, insurance doesn’t pay for pure OEM parts unless you have an extra endorsement for that. So if the shop used more expensive OEM parts, you’d be on the hook to pay for the difference in cost from aftermarket to OEM.
