They claim that since I rent a spot in the garage it would go under my renters policy, and that I am considered an ‘owner’ since I pay for a parking spot.

My apartment’s garage closed on my vehicle damaging the garage and they are seeking the cost of repair, and my auto insurance says it isn’t covered under the liability portion

Of course it isn’t. The door closed on the car – even if there was coverage somehow on your auto policy for the door, the liability does not fall on the car and would not be covered anyway.

    2. Who is claiming it ahould be on your renters policy? The liability on your auto insurance is for when you hit someone/something else and your renters insurance isn’t going to pay for damage to your own vehicle.

Did the garage door disconnect and fall? Or did it just close and you didn’t move? The former would be a comprehensive claim, the latter is a collision claim.

OP when you say garage door do you mean like a small enclosed garage like you would have in a residence? Or do you mean a door that allows access to a parking garage?
