My son’s car is not running and needs repair. It will take him two or three months to make the repairs. He will not be able to drive his car during this time. I want to remove his car from my policy and add it again after it is running. No sense insuring a car that is sitting in a garage, right? Is there a downside to parking this policy while his car is parked?? Thanks for your input!

      1) Depending on your state, you may need to turn in your plates/tags if your vehicle is not insured for liability;

      2) At the very least you should have comprehensive insurance in case, say, the roof caves in on the garage and damages the car,

      3) There is a non-zero change that you or your son will forget to add the vehicle back on when the car is ready; even for a test drive (this happens *way more often than you think*), and

      4) If there is a loan on the car, you may still need to insure it for comprehensive & collision coverage

      It’s better to pause coverage for a car not in use to save costs. Just make sure that there won’t be penalties for lapses in coverage
