Thank you in advance for your help!

I am in Northern California and I was a passenger of a car that lost control. The driver has auto insurance and I have health insurance from my workplace. I lost consciousness in the accident and woke up at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital with significant injuries. The auto insurance of the driver has a $100k injury limit.

By the end of the first day, my doctors and nurses ordered me to be discharged to General Sugary, the least intense (and lowest cost) part of the ER. However, the hospital admin kept on telling me that they had no space and I would get the next bed in General Sugary. This went on for days. Nurses were even telling me that I didn't belong in ICU by the end of my stay. On the morning of the third day, they finally agreed to discharge me instead completely. I voiced my concerns numerous times that I was being kept in ICU longer than necessary and refused to sign the consent form for treatment because of it.

The hospital is now trying to charge my health insurance for 3 days of ICU at over $30,000 per day! I do not believe this is fair. Is there anything I can do about this? If there is, how can I get these charges reduced. If I understand correctly, the more that by health insurance pays out to the hospital, the more they will try to get from the driver's auto insurance.

    Thanks again!
