Hello everyone,

I have medical insurance coverage through my employer. As a new employee I selected my coverage and before my benefits were active and while I was still in the open enrollment phase, I changed my mind. I emailed my employer’s HR department because the benefits sign up was not open even though it should have been. Well they never got back to me and now I’m facing large bills due to being in a high deductible plan. The plan that I had wanted to change to instead was the pricier copayment plan.

Does anyone know of my employer can request that my plan coverage be back dated to the copayment plan and then I can request that the providers that my family has seen resubmit their claims? I’m basically going to have to pay a lot more because they messed up. They realized that they messed up and offered to open up the benefits portal. I already signed up for the plan that I originally wanted. What should I do?

    1. how far back are you talking? generally speaking, we can get an insurance carrier to go back up to 60 days without much/any push back, so if for instance your new coverage was supposed to start 5/1, it could still be fixed. If you’re talking 1/1/24, it’s unlikely.
