I was involved in a single car accident today. I hit a pole in a parking lot which caused $3,500 damage to my car. No damage to the pole. My deductible is $500. I have full coverage and could make a claim for my cars damage but I’m worried about the increase to my future premiums. I’ve had a clean driving record – no accidents, claims or tickets in the last 15 years. I’m in California and get the Good Driver Discount plus an additional “Subclass Factor” good driver discount from Geico. From what I can tell, I’ll for sure lose this Subclass Factor discount for the next 5 years. I can’t tell if I’ll lose the Good Driver Discount because this may be a 1 or 2 point accident.

Does anyone have any thoughts about the following –

    1. What will happen to my Good Driver Discount? Is this a 1 or 2 point at fault accident? Is there a dollar amount of damage for a 1 or 2 point accident?

    2. Is my premium going to skyrocket with what is a pretty small claim?

    Thank you!!
