Insurance trying to find out if another party is responsible for injury. Injury occured on friend’s family’s property

I broke my leg months back staying out of state. My friend's family has a place that they were letting us stay at for free, which we were staying at. Injury happened late at night stepping outside off of the front porch in the wrong spot. How do I make sure not to cause financial issues for my friend's family? The insurance is saying I've agreed to provide them information to determine if another party could be held liable for my injury
