I was hit by car from behind at a red light. The driver fled the scene on foot and my car has some damages. The cops tried to find him but couldn't t trace him. He left his car and phone at the scene. I don't have his insurance information but I have filed a claim on my insurance and given his license number. Will my insurance track his insurance number from the license plate? If he doesn't have an insurance would it be under non insured motorist or collision damage. I want to avoid my premium to go up. Please help here.

Yes they will see if they have insurance through their LP/VIN. If they left the car there though I’d put money it was stolen, and insurance won’t pay.

It will go under collision unless your state has uninsured property damage coverage.
