Hi folks,

I am contemplating buying a truck, one of my much younger friends wants to drive it; however, they don't have the best driving history nor judgement.

I'd prefer to not risk my own insurance policy or have any additional liability if I let this person drive it and they have an incident.

Can I have them take our an additional auto policy under their name? How would you handle this particular situation to limit liability?

Insurance follows the vehicle not the driver. As the owner your insurance would be primary, his would be excess, and your insurance would want him listed on the policy if he has regular use/access. If your friend is not the best driver, I’d strongly consider not letting him drive, as you will bear most of the consequences.
