Today I was driving my kids to a doctors appointment when a driver passed me in the passing lane and tossed a cup out of their window, which splattered all over my car. Initially, I thought they were assholes throwing a milkshake. Because of this my mind didn’t think to get their plates. I went to wipe away with my wipers and it just stuck. Took it through car wash and when I got home I realized it was in fact NOT a milkshake. It is absolutely insulation foam and will not come off without doing tons of damage.

I’ve called non emergency and they will be coming by to write a report.

I’ve never filed an insurance claim. We have comprehensive, are in Maryland, cars worth about 25-30k but we still owe 13k. The entire front is covered, I have splatters on the sides and top, both side mirrors are covered, as well as my windshield and my frozen in place windshield wipers.

What will happen next? What can I expect? I haven’t called my insurance company because I’m waiting on the police report. Should I call now or am I right in waiting? Please tell me you don’t think they will consider it totaled… and if they do, what will that mean for me. I’m so upset.

    I appreciate all advice.

    1. That sucks that this happened to you… People really do suck!

For your car, it’s up to you if you want to start a claim. You’ll have to pay your comprehensive deductible to get your vehicle repaired.

      I’m sorry this happened.

Post to r/detailing with pictures for advice on removing the dried window foam.

They may be able to reccomend a solvent that will help without damaging paint too much.

You should be able to scrape the foam off your winsheld carefully with a razor scraper since there’s no coating on the outside of the windshield.

I doubt your car will be totaled the foam adhered to the paint is cosmetic it may be ugly but you should be ok.

      Good luck

Forget about the police. Forget about your insurance. And, above all, forget about doing it yourself.

Take the car to a detailer and the pros will get that stuff off your car without damaging it.

Probably for less than your deductible.
