Okay here’s where I am making a police report first thing this morning. Please evaluate and advise me forwards as to a smooth claim process. Thank you so much.

Anyone with any kind of feedback would be appreciated.

I just moved into a room I’m renting in a house that I found on craigslist. The landlord/owner/roomate told me to get renters insurance. So I purchased renters insurance from “Toggle” (I believe an umbrella company of farmers that is solely virtual)

Every category of coverage that was offered (Technology, Furniture + Appliances, Fashion + Jewelry,
    Creative + Maker,
    Active
Collectibles) I bought the premium highest possible coverage package I could ($10k limit each) with “replacement cost” rather than “actual cash value” in addition with a deductible set at $500.

I am still within just my first month with the second payment due in a few days and today I had my camera bag and bike in/on my roommate/landlords (locked) car for a few days. Inside of our gated property. He was leaving today so I ran out and got my bike and bag and rack that holds my bike off the car and walked everything to the side of the house behind the man gate to the backyard. I locked it and went in the garage back into the house to go around so I could close the garage door. Then when I got to the back yard to retrieve my bike it was gone with the camera bag. That quick! There had been a few people walking down the sides of the road I live on as well as across the street in the open field but I didn’t pay mind as it’s common. I’m assuming it was someone that saw me putting the bike away and had the nerve to pounce and take off. The man gate had been just shoved open. Lock still on and everything fine except being pushed until the clamp that holds the gates arm lever thing slipped and twisted around the poll it’s attached to.

I immediately called the cops and made a police report. I wasn’t aware to have a detailed list for them ready so the cop said I can email it to him once I got it together.

Since there is no sign of forced entry would my statement and the police report be sufficient for the insurance company to cover my claim under theft? I read my policy and it doesn’t really get into details on this. Please help.

So what was stolen was a completely custom BMX bicycle worth about $2500 as well as my camera bag. Camera bag contents totaling about just about $12k That’s valuing everything at estimated retail value replacement cost. The camera is a Canon 7d mark I with all name brand aftermarket Canon lenses about 1500-2000 each one and I have 4 lenses plus a couple other camera essentials. And 2 MacBook airs. Ones old and the other a year old.

I am an amateur BMX freestyle rider with over 20 years of experience as well as an aspiring photographer as the two paired well growing up if I wanted pictures of me and my friends. So the bicycle is made up of every single part being hand picked and built by myself from the best bmx parts you can buy. I have full parts lists for each as well as many TONS of photos of me riding it as well as photos of the parts still in packages brand new the day I received them and newly built. I have some partial parts receipts for about half of it though if that including the vin number of the frame with pictures.i have several bikes like this but they are stored at my parents house or loaned to friends.

The camera bag had multiple cameras and lenses mostly Canon name brand top dollar stuff that I had acquired from a friend who was a photographer for the army and after changing professions moved back to New York and surprisingly gave them to me as payment for the work/time spent practicing our shared passion/hobby together over the years. As he is well off and saw it as a way for me to start up a small side gig in photography as well use in my pursuit of a more established BMX professional. So no receipts but I have photos of all the cameras and lenses in the bag as well as TONS of photos shot with them and serial numbers for everything logged in an inventory list. As well as two MacBook air’s with serial numbers pictures of and packaging purchased in.

Is there any reason I should not expect an easy claim done in a timely manner? What are things I should be worried about that I can be best prepared for? Any criticism and feedback is appreciated.
