Question about taxes, vehicle registration, and home of record vs. residence.

Hi everyone! First off, thank you all ahead of time for your time taken to read and hopefully reply with advice. I love this sub and the advice given over the years! Thank you for all you do!

Now then… I am Active Duty (14 year Navy) and recently bought our first family home in Maryland. I enlisted out of North Carolina and have a NC Drivers License with my parents previous address listed.

My parents have since moved away from the state.

I need to register my two vehicles (previously registered in VA at last duty station) in six months. Could I register them in the state of NC as it is my HOR? Is it a problem that nobody I know lives at the address listed on my Drivers License (which is the same address I use to vote)?

I've been paying state income taxes (jointly) to NC since I enlisted. Now that I am a home owner should I change my HOR to MD and consolidate everything here, thus abandoning the state of NC? I realize this will cost a lot more in state taxes.

I already pay the MD county property taxes for my home.
