Hi! I will PCS to Naples Italy in a couple of months. I have a 2017 Mazda cx5 that I owe $10k on (it’s worth about $16k). I’m deciding if I want to find a way to pay it off quickly (likely refinance) OR sell and buy a car in Naples.

My car has low mileage and I don’t mind if it gets some bumps and bruises.

    WWYD?

Do I want to ship my POV to Naples?

That’s about the biggest vehicle you’d want over there. If you take it to downtown Naples it’ll feel big.

It’ll get scuffed up a bit.

You’re going to want a car over there. You could sell, buy then sell/buy when you come back. That would cost more than just keeping the one vehicle though.

I shipped my car back and forth and was glad I did.

Sell it, anything nice in Naples will get ding and dented there. Just buy a lemon car from the lemon lot on the support site. My car we bought and sold for about the same price 2 years later. My boss was returning to his second tour in Naples and the car he had owned on his first tour there was still being traded on that lot 10 years later.

Buy a Naples beater there. Any American cars are ripe for getting dinged and broken into. Our beater ran well and never got broken into.
