Soldier is going unaccompanied to Korea and he is sending his family back to their home of record. His family will be staying in his father in law’s in the same zip code. At some point his family will have a vacation to another country for like 5-8 months max. Do they have to report they will be in another country while receiving bah from the said zipcode(home of record) ?

      Two things…

A: The soldier didn’t change his home.

      B: Ain’t your fuckin’ business.

Without more details I would say to just mind your business. I don’t know the regulations up and down but I’m pretty sure as described there’s nothing that screams to me that it is fraud.

If they never moved into the zip code/home of record and were living in a different lower COL area then I would say to encourage the soldier that all the information for his families location is accurate.

His dependent BAH zip will be listed on his orders.

They aren’t your orders nor is it your business.

Sounds like the family has a state side residence and is taking a vacation.

Family has no requirement to report foreign travel.

    5. DoD FMR, Volume 7a, Chapter 26, Table 26-33 covers situations where the family relocates while the servicemember is on unaccompanied orders OCONUS. It sounds like rule 12 may apply. If they relocate overseas at personal expense, BAH continues until they arrive at the OHA area. The servicemember is then eligible for OHA at the new location.

Will the family be in Korea with the servicemember? That’s covered under Table 26-31.

BAH isn’t like OHA where it turns off if you go away for an amount of time
