I'm moving to San Diego as an O2 (no dependents) and recently decided to rent an apartment for myself after living with roommates for the past 2.5 years (7 years if you include college). With utilities and parking included, that works out to a little over $700 left per month in BAH. I've been maxing out my TSP since the start of my career, have recently started contributing to a Roth IRA, and plan to continue doing so in San Diego. I had the opportunity to live with a roommate again, but I didn't know them and I was concerned I'd run into the same issues I had with previous roommates.

Ultimately, I'm tired and want my own place but the thought of paying a 1k/mo premium for my comfort is concerning.

    Am I being Irresponsible?

If you’re spending under BAH on rent and utilities, you’re not being irresponsible.
