Analyst price targets are misleading ! Never trusting them again. Looks like it’s a scheme to get retail investors to buy, pump and then dump. There should be ratings for analysts and the firms too —- based on accuracy, number of revisions etc. Consumers deserve right information. FTC should look into this.

Analyst price targets are scam! Never trusting them again.

    1. It’s an opinion, not a fact. I think the only time people really put stock in them is when they’re bag holding some crap and a positive price target gives them some much needed ![img](emote|t5_2th52|18630)

    2. It’s an opinion targeted could be somewhere 12 to 18 months or more, not for the next 12 minutes.

Are you telling me that banks are biased towards the people paying them? Say it isn’t so! You mean that they sold their integrity for money, you need to tell everyone!

I think “sell side,” and “buy side,” give important clues….

      They’re doing their jobs.

I remember Coin was trading around 180 prior to earnings earlier this yr and some analysts came out and said it has a price target of 250. Sure enough it’s been there for a while. Some others have said it’s price target is above 300 but it never got that far.

    7. I think there is a sort of “rating” for analysts. Can’t remember if it was the old TD or fidelity but I remember coming across it.

    8. If analysts knew wtf they were talking about, they would quit their jobs and becomes millionaires/billionaires trading on their “knowledge”

This is like the scams that say they can teach you to make millions if you buy their $199 course. Why the F they wasting time making a course, when they should be making millions and also keeping the secret to themselves.

Fidelity provides “StarMine” analyst ratings next to the analyst’s opinions.

      [**StarMine From Refinitiv**]()
StarMine from Refinitiv, provides independent, objective ratings by measuring securities analysts around the globe on the return of stock opinions and the accuracy of earnings estimates.

[**StarMine Relative Accuracy Score from Refinitiv**]()
StarMine Relative Accuracy Score, a measure of the relative historical accuracy of the firm’s opinions in the stock’s sector among its peers over the last 24 months. StarMine, focuses primarily on building quantitative factor models for institutional investors. For over five years for Fidelity.com, StarMine has run its sophisticated scoring system to facilitate a comparison of research provider recommendation performance across widely disparate industries and market conditions. The StarMine Relative Accuracy Score is calculated using a universe consisting of sell-side and independent research providers. For purposes of calculating the Equity Summary Score, the universe of providers in the StarMine Relative Accuracy Score is limited to opinions from the independent research providers on Fidelity.com. The StarMine Relative Accuracy Score for each research provider uses the past performance of the provider’s individual stock recommendations with that of its peers in each sector to calculate a statistical aggregation ranging from 1 to 100. It is calculated over a 24-month period based on the performance of a research firm within a given sector against its peer set of other firms in the market rating stocks in this sector.

The analysis are long-term predictions (usually 12 months), not pump and dumps. The problem (or oportunity) is that people see them and get excited, thinking that it’s going to move quickly to that number anyway and the smart money rides that.
