I am an Army Reservist whose being activated on title 10 orders for a year in Texas. I am also a federal employee for the SSA as a GS employee. I understand that the Reservist Differential is supposed to cover the difference between your activated military pay and you civilian pay if your civilian pay is higher. I have come across these prior posts on reddit:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Airforcereserves/comments/1awfvga/how_does_differential_pay_full_salary/

    https://www.reddit.com/r/armyreserve/comments/1cg2n0o/reservist_differential_pay_what_us_code_authority/

What I am confused about is if your other Army benefits are included such as BAH, BAS, etc. I thought it was only your base pay vs the base pay for your civilian job? Some of the stories from those prior posts seem to indicate that BAH is not counted. Can anyone clarify?

The way the federal government does the reservist differential is by taking your GS base + locality pay and comparing it to your entire military paycheck, pay and all allowances.

They do not include any extra pay in your civilian paycheck such as retention incentives. They do include ALL allowances on the military side, so BAH, FSA, etc.
