2 questions. This is my first time using SCRA laws, so I don’t know what I’m doing yet.

Does the SCRA protect me from breaking a lease after my orders have been executed? I executed a PCS 1.5 weeks ago, but I have a wife and newborn who still live in an apartment in my old duty station, and that lease is not up until March 2025. The orders were very last minute, and my wife was in the middle of a certification program for her work that ends Aug. 10, so we decided to have them stay while I execute the PCS. So if my orders have a reporting date in the past am I still protected under SCRA if I want to break it in order to move my family to my new duty station?

Second question. That lease lists my father in law as a guarantor, as my income didn’t meet their 3x income to rent threshold so he had to sign on. If I was to break this lease, is he going to be required to pay the remaining rent? Or does SCRA break the lease for everyone involved?
