I have a Air Natl Guard colleague with 30yrs service, 25 as a commissioned officer. LtCol, mandatory sep date Aug 2027. Went to transfer GI Bill to dependent (who turns 23 in November), denied due to MSD. Entitled to 100% due to active time. Currently AGR at NGB, has a full-time slot waiting for them back home. They will be up for O6 soon with full support of command/adjutant general etc. Is there anything that can be done in order for them to transfer GI Bill to dependent? TAG is happy to write any letter in support. Congressional, request to extend MSD?

Just very unfortunate that a 30yr service member who is planning to serve more than 4 more years anyway when promoted isn't able to transfer this benefit.

Waive 4yr obligation/extend mandatory sep date for GI Bill transfer?

He’s had since 2009 July to do the transfer and a child dependent can’t use transfer Post 9/11 GI Bill after their 26th birthday.

The branch Secretary should be should be able to grant a time in service waiver but there is no waiver for the dependent using Post 9/11 GI Bill after 26th birthday.
