Hey everyone,

I don't see many posts about MOAA Insurance plans, so I wanted to share my experience. Apologies to my enlisted brothers and sisters (former enlisted, now Warrant). Before flight school, I was shopping for term life insurance. Quotes from USAA, Zander, and others skyrocketed once flying was mentioned.

I stumbled upon MOAA insurance plans and was amazed at how affordable they are! I wish it was more talked about in the officer community. Unfortunately, I often find myself trying to convince people against First Command whole life policies.

MOAA offers three different term life insurance plans, but I chose the Group Leader Group Term Policy. Here are some reasons why:

    • No exclusions or limitations for war or flying! Even for non-flyers, the rates are very competitive.
    • You can get the same coverage for your spouse.
    • Pricing for $1,000,000 coverage per month (prices are listed per $10,000 of coverage):
      • Preferred health, age under 30: $17/month. Tobacco rate: $48/month.
      • Preferred health, age 45-49: $90/month. Tobacco rate: $242/month.

The group plan's pricing increases every 5 years with age. After age 50, the maximum coverage is $550,000 until age 69. The insurance is underwritten by Voya, a legitimate insurance company.

I wanted to share this because I happened to find MOAA insurance plans and hope it helps some of you out there! I am NOT a rep for MOAA or Voya, just a WOJG who wants to see fellow soldiers avoid getting taken advantage of by life insurance salespeople.
