I (M25) am wondering if when my fiancee (F26) and I get married, if she HAS to be added to my Tricare Reserve Select plan. From what I know, the family plan jumps up from ~$50 for just myself, to ~$200, which is a huge jump in terms of drill pay, most of it in fact (E5, 3-years TIS).

She is currently on a Medicaid plan as our careers get sorted, but she doesn't have to pay to be on it. While obviously TRS would be a much better plan, financially, if she were forced to be on it, it wouldn't make sense for us to get married at this time.

Would anyone be able to provide some insight to how it works? Or if it is possible for us to be married and her not get on TRS immediately? Thanks in advance!

When I get married, is my spouse required to be on Tricare?

You do not have to add her. But when y’all get married your combined income may disqualify her from her current covered health plan.
