I was wondering what’s better Tri care dental and vision or fedvip dental and vision for using doctors around me instead of in base care just wondering.

Most dental and vision plans are very similar. They cover annual or semi annual evals plus offer some coverage for procedures. They are more preventative care plans with negotiated rates on procedures/glasses/contacts. If you dont wear glasses or contacts you very likely come out ahead just cash pay for an annual or occasional exam.

Dental is debateable. If you have a good cash pay clinic you might come out ahead if you have good dental hygiene and no pending work. Most dental plans claim to cover 50 or 80% of procedures but in reality they are just negotiated rates the clinics agree to as part of being in network. Otherwise, think of it as joining a network to prepay cleanings and not having to negotiate a root canal rate when you need a root canal. I think fedvip has a few dental options which in reality are just different levels of pre negotiated rates as all of them cover preventative.

Now that i am out of the military my work options arent much different. Even the cost is about the same. Your best bet is to see what providers around you accept the insurance and go with the one that has the right price and access to local providers.
