I'm looking to do a LEAPS on NVDA or NVDL, open interest is as follows:
NVDL delta 0.8
Dec 19 2025 strike 95
14,572 open interest
Dec 20 2024 strike 100
22,934 open interest
NVDL
March 2025 delta 0.79 strike 48
1,142 open interest
Dec 20 2024 delta 0.82 strike 45
535 open interest
Is open interest 1,142 too low?
Questions:
In general, for LEAPS, what open interest is considered too low?
Is optionstrat reliable to get estimations for LEAPS that are >1 yr out?
Is Dec 2024 too soon?

They have been played out. Gold and BTC thrive in chaos so buy those LEAPS
Depends on the concern. Will the lesser populated expirations and strikes create an undervalued option price lower than the theoretical option value and you want to be short? No worries, it already did if it was going to. You’re looking at it.
This is Nividia and a related 2x ETF. The OI will be market wide as soon as the expirations are close enough to fit into more trading plans.
i’d recommend for early ‘25 target so you don’t give yourself a big gain before tax year ends. target all my leaps to expire early in the following year so i have time to generate write offs against its gain
