So looking for advice all around on this…we are in PA and do have a call into an attorney…but want to gather advice/feedback.

Older lady ran her car through our exterior AC unit, and into our brick enclosed porch. Bricks and wood finish on the exterior and interior of the porch have cracks and stress fractures all over the place. This lady missed killing my kids by about an inch. They were playing outside on the enclosed porch, exactly where the car drove through the brick. Anyway….

AC unit is obviously toast. It’s a pancake. Brick and windows are crumbling apart (and we did lose a few more bricks over night). We did some quick searches on this older lady…information would suggest she has little to no assets and she may only have state minimum coverage for property damage (in PA I believe it’s 5k). The AC unit alone will eat that up. The brick looks like it has to be taken down completely and rebuilt, which I know is stupid expensive.

If this individual is 100 percent responsible (as determined by the state police), how would one proceed? Insurance coverage may not cover what we need for a rebuild and the individual doesn’t have money/assets. I don’t want to ruin her life (although she probably will never have insurance again at this point) by suing her into oblivion, but we don’t have extra money sitting around like that. Yes, we will talk to a lawyer tomorrow, but what do we do here?
