Hi, I have questions regarding health/dental insurance for my kiddo. Just found out my kid needs braces (after constantly being told she likely won’t need them- thanks pediatric dental care….). The rate the orthodontist gave me almost gave me a heart attack.

I’m in PA. I’m looking to get dental insurance through my job for my child. We are offered Delta PPO-which says it covers 50% of the cost of braces (still a lot but honestly a lot better than the full quote- and they’re accepted by the orthodontist we went to, another plus). The only issue is that my job doesn’t have open enrollment until next month for 2025. My ex/baby daddy’s job is starting open enrollment on his benefits and he mentioned looking into dental care as well for our child. I do not know when his insurance will be activated. She currently has insurance through CHIP.

My question is- can we BOTH get dental coverage for her?

Would both insurances help cover her braces?

Is it worth getting insurance through both of our employers or should we just get one or the other (depending on benefits/pricing).

CHIP does NOT cover braces- at least not at the orthodontist we went to. I’m not positive if they’ll cover them elsewhere.

I currently don’t know what kind of insurance my baby daddy is capable of getting through his employer. I’m not sure of what his rates are. I don’t know if either of us has a better plan. He’s looking into that but he tends to slack with paper work so I’ll have to wait and see- or find a subreddit for his employer and ask myself (which honestly is prob what I’ll have to do to get answers).

I know my employer will charge approximately $5 weekly for the dental coverage(which will cover myself and my children). It will cover 50% of the braces with no deductible for them.
