Hi, based in CA. I was with my bf and asked if he could move out of a tight parking spot because I wasn't comfortable doing it myself. He was doing to just move and then switch back. My bf doesn't have insurance since he is not driving, tried to get out but backed into a parked car behind us. (Tesla) Minor damages to our cars. Exchanged info with the other person. The next day he got an estimate from a certified dealer, sent the papers over and it quoted 3700.00. I asked if this is the correct amount, and he said he wasn't sure because they would need to take out the bumper and see. At this point, I tell him "I don't have enough to pay out of pocket and I'm working and a student so it's stressful but i think it's best if we go through insurance. So at this point I decide to call and file a claim and they started but didn't finish it.
The guy texted me back and saids he understand and will go to another shop to get another estimate and will let me know.

    What do I do?
First I'm worried about my bf being behind the wheel and how this will pan out? What if my insurance doesn't help me because of my bf?

Second I feel like a dick for not waiting for the guys message to confirm? Should I have waited to file a claim?
Can I back out if me and the guy make a deal? Or should I just go through with the claim? I feel like an idiot for not waiting for him as he is trying to work with me?

Need advice on how to proceed!

Does your bf have a license? Do you and your bf live together? If so he should be a listed driver or excluded driver on your policy…if he is listed or doesn’t live with you then he is covered under permisive use…if excluded, then no coverage.

You can cancel a claim but it will still count as a $0 claim on your record and will be there for 3-5 years. By your own admission, you don’t have money to repair his car so there is really nothing to work out. Going through the process is your best option.
