I was recently involved in a hit-and-run accident in California where I got bumped from the back, and the other driver fled the scene. I have the driver’s plate number and filed a police report at the scene. I’ve been a Geico customer for over 10 years and thought I had all possible coverages selected through their app, including uninsured motorist. However, I just found out that because I have collision coverage, Geico won’t cover the damages under uninsured motorist, even though I’m not at fault. Filing under collision will raise my premiums and has a $1,000 deductible, which makes no sense to file at all. Does this seem fair or am I being mistreated? Has anyone else experienced this?

Is it fair that Geico doesn’t cover my hit-and-run under uninsured motorist coverage in California?
