I was parked in front of someones home in philly (very narrow streets) when a person on the opposite side left their parking spot right into the back of me. My back quarter panel got heavily dented and my paint scraped off. Dude has no insurance and gave me his cell saying “I work at a shop ill fix it”. I saw my number pop up on his phone when I called it so atleast I know he didnt give a fake

He then drove off after I took down his license plate saying he was in a rush. Now ducking my texts of course

I filed a police report. They advised me to call my insurance but will this cause my rates to go up? My body shop friend said $2k minimum to fix. My car already has 170k miles and while the damage is ugly to look at, Im fine with leaving it alone if it means my rates wont hike..

Im not even sure how to probably read my insurance but it looks like I have 1000 collision deductible and 25k limit for uninsured motorist coverage. What does this mean?

Filing a claim can always affect your rates. 1000$ is what you pay to get your car fixed and your insurance will cover the rest. Uninsured motorist usually has a lower ded or none and the max they will pay is 25k but depending on the state you live in you might not be eligible to use it if you didn’t file a Police report within 24 hrs or file a claim on your policy.

    2. You don’t understand the difference between Uninsured Motorists coverage and Uninsured Motorists Property Damage Coverage. Uninsured Motorists coverage is for injury to you by an uninsured driver who causes an accident. Uninsured Motorists Property Damage is for when your car gets damaged by an uninsured motorist who causes an accident.

Pennsylvania does not have UMPD available according to the following article from April 2024.

[Uninsured Motorist Property Damage (UMPD): 2024 Guide (wallethub.com)](https://wallethub.com/edu/ci/uninsured-motorist-property-damage/92462)

However, since you have collision coverage you have the option of making the claim under your own policy rather than hassling for months in small claims court and then maybe years trying to collect.

Rates are going up all over whether you make claims or not. You are welcome to leave your car as is. The decision is yours.
