Hey all! I’m really at a loss/generally confused about this, saw a few Reddit posts in this group in my search, thought maybe a post here could shed some light for me. I currently live in Cincinnati, OH and I plan on moving to Vancouver, Washington before winter sets (hopefully before October). I have a first round phone interview with an insurance brokerage as a Receptionist/Administrative Assistant. One of the things listed in the description is to have the “ability to obtain an insurance license”. I haven’t actually spoken with anyone company side more than scheduling the phone interview.

My question is: if I live in Vancouver, Washington and the building I would potentially work in is in Portland, Oregon, would I want a Washington license or an Oregon license? In my brief search I found residency in Oregon to be a requirement to obtain an insurance license there. I’m a US citizen, born and raised in Ohio, in case that affects anything.

Additionally, I saw there are multiple types of licenses (health, life, etc). I plan on asking during the interview what type of insurance license I would need to obtain for the job. My question is: Is there a difference in difficulty/payment for courses/time spent on courses for the license? If obtaining an insurance license is something that will take me 400 hours and I find out I need it before starting, I won’t want to waste my time.

TLDR: ANY insight that anyone can provide on the process of getting an insurance license and how licensure works across US State borders would be very greatly appreciated!
