Three lane highway with a separate HOV lane divided by a gutter (so four total travel lanes).

Person in the center lane begins slowing/braking gradually for no apparent reaeon and a semi-truck behind them starts eating up its following distance expecting them to accelerate. The center lane driver then slams on their brakes, comes to a near stop, and turns almost 90° to the travel lanes and takes an exit.

The semi-truck behind them brakes and swerves left to avoid them. A vehicle in the left lane swerves across the gutter into the HOV lane to avoid the semi-truck.

The vehicle that was in the left lane loses control while swerving and slides across the highway striking a separate, and until now, uninvolved vehicle.

This last vehicle then spins around and strikes the semi truck in the left lane.

The person who nearly stopped on the highway did not make contact with anyone.

This happened in CT (and the video is on my profile)

I mean….the semi should have noticed that car was slowing down and should have applied their brakes before that person came to a stop on the highway. So, not great for them. The way that driver chose to swerve also doesn’t look very safe. Red car didn’t maintain control of their own vehicle.

    2. Left lane driver is going to be at fault for failure to maintain control. You can’t cause an accident to avoid one.
