I have a question. I’m being dropped by my insurance company because they’re stating I have three claims. I do not have three claims. I have one claim two times I called and asked a question and they put it in as a claim however, I called them they said it says zero dollars they sent me two letters saying the claim was withdraw, however it’s still on S3 claims therefore I cannot find nobody to cover me without outrageous amounts that I cannot afford. I don’t know what to do. I’m lost and I’m scared anybody have any suggestions?

    1. If you call the claims department and ask about a claims question they set up a claim. Doesn’t matter if it is paid out or if you withdraw it…once a claim is open it is forever.

Did you submit one claim and ask them two questions or did you submit three claims and withdraw two? If the former, you should call and try and get it resolved with management. If the latter, you’re out of luck as a withdrawn claim still counts as a claim.

    3. If you called State Farm to discuss a claim scenario that happened to you they will report it as a claim with $0 paid out. It has long been rumored they did this to make it more difficult when you shop for other insurance and make it more likely you stayed with them as they didn’t count these against you before the Crapstorm the insurance industry has found themselves in this year.

I am not aware of anything you can do to get this removed from your Prior Loss Report that any new company will check when quoting your new policy. You can maybe send copies of the notice of withdrawal of the claim to the new agent you are working with and they can try to get an underwriter to not consider them, but that is a longshot in this market.

But they’re dropping me they’re not renewing my insurance that’s why I’m lost. I don’t know what to do. Every insurance company says they do show. It is zero dollars however it’s still on there is three claims even though I have the letters from them.

Think about it this way: your rate is based on the statistically likelihood that your carrier is going to have to pay out. When you have a lot of instances of loss, regardless of whether you file the claim or not, taking place at your premise, your odds of filing “the big one” go up (statistically speaking). So when you call and ask those claims questions, you’re essentially telling the carrier that another instance has occurred. Therefore, you’re one step closer to filing a large loss claim.
It’s not personal, it’s math. That being said, as a previous agent, I highly highly recommend having an independent agent. I used to work as a buffer between folks like you and the carrier and when they would call me with situations like yours, we could have an honest conversation off and protect you. Find an agent.

In California insurance regs basically say if you call an agent or the company to discuss a claim, they are required to open a claim even if you don’t pursue it further. “What if hypothetically…” or “allegedly” gets used a lot in an agency.

If you called the claims department to report a claim or damage, they open a claim with the reported damage. They can’t answer hypothetical questions…
If you withdraw the claim or do not receive a payout, that doesn’t mean that you didn’t report the damage.

They are correct- you have 3 claims. You will be unable to get rid of them, they just will fall off.
