hey guys, suppose i get assigned on my spy 556 puts, and the market closed at 554 so i will get assigned at 556. Now i wanted to ask can i sell these shares after hour?? Or i can only sell them at market open?? Suppose at 5.30 i get an email that i got assigned. Now i want to sell those shares asap so can i sell them after 5.30 pm anytime?? I see the bid ask spread of spy and they are quite liquid after hour too.

If you have shares in your account and after-hours trading is still on, you can sell them.
However, that’s not a good way to sell options; you lose the edge that comes with options selling.
If you are going to sell the shares instantly and take a loss, you can just buy a call… At least the risk is limited.
SPY isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Wait until the next day or 2 for recovery, or sell CC and make some money.
Sell a CC and reduce loss if you need the capital to trade. If you are flush, then give it a week and sell CC for profit.
