Hey peeps of r/StudentLoans!

I have an absolutely wild health and recovery story that started in July 2022 when my doctors told me I had to stop working (and going to school). I was told I need to drop everything I was doing in life and focus on getting a lung transplant. It ended up with me needing a heart-lung (double) transplant at the same time. This is a very rare procedure that has less than 100 operations a year in the U.S. I was transplanted in January 2024 (my student loans had been forgiven at this point) and recently had a kidney transplant due to the trauma my body incurred in the first operation. I’m doing a lot better now and I’m trying to think of my future and that starts with finishing my degree.

What I really want to know is, am I able to pay for my final semester out of pocket with out having to repay the $60k that was forgiven. I feel like I could probably contact my college I attended and get better answer, but I’m hoping I can get some advice from people that may have experienced a similar situation.

    Thanks again!

I want to finish my last semester of my degree, but I received a TPD Discharge and received SSDI
