This is California if that helps.

I was rear ended at a stop sign, other person’s insurance says he’s at fault which is greats news. The thing is they’ve sent me a check through email for about a little over $1700 before I’ve even gone to a shop for an estimate and the adjuster said they’re closing the claim. I’m gonna have to have my trunk and bumper completely replaced but It’s a holiday weekend, the insurance company and the shops around here won’t be open till Tuesday. I have yet to cash the electronic check to my bank account in fear that if I do I wont be given anymore if the total repairs end up being over the $1700. The check was sent to me yesterday on a Friday and the email says the payment is only valid for 3 days, I have another 2 days to claim it. Any advice?

Other person auto insurance sent me a check not sure if it’ll be enough?

    1. Exact situation is happened to me.

3rd party insurance sent me $1800 for a bumper replacement and paint. I was planning on going to a body shop and made them aware. They said they would add onto it if the body shop found other issues.

I even asked what happens if I let the 3 day payment expire without collecting it. They told me it was okay to accept it and it was not an agreement to stop pursuing.

I ended up realizing that my trunk has major damage after I accepted it and they said ok but the claim was now closed. They said let the body see it and it will be re-opened and added on.

So far they seem above board (knock on wood) because I just went to a body shop and the insurance company hasn’t ducked me is sending someone there on Tuesday to look at it. They also offered me a rental after the claim was marked closed.

Our correspondence is via text so I have it in writing.

    2. Lady backed into me in a parking lot as I was driving by. Caused about $4k in damage.

They sent me a check for 3600, cashed it to pay shop, then shop negotiated with them for the remainder and the insurance company had a rental delivered to the shop for me.

Didn’t cost me a penny. Except the $50 rental thing and I immediately canceled the account i used to pay for it, just in case the re tal company tried anything funny and tried to steal from me. So, it did technically cost me $50 bc I never got it back.
