I’m a stepchild of a US veteran and I’ll be starting my Trades school in January and apparently I’ll be getting paid by the VA each month which can help cover my rent and tuition I assume, this what I have been loosely told by my stepdad and a bit by my mom.

I have a question though about this:

Is my mother Legally allowed to use the money herself will that all fall under my name and she has no legal standings to use the money the VA will be giving me for College, we aren’t on any sort of Disability or Financial Assistance, we are pretty well off and my Parents can provide for themselves but my mother has made comments about using the money for the family in general when I would need the money for Apartment rent and other expenses.

Note that I am currently 19 years old, I am in fact a Legal adult.

    1. If someone transferred their Post 9/11 GI Bill to you, you can control what account the housing allowance gets deposited to.

You should also be aware that the servicemember or veteran who made the transfer can revoke it at any time.
