Just making sure I understand–
12 years active duty. Commissioned 2012.
Would like to transfer GI to wife / child.
In order to do this, I have to commit to 4 more years in order to transfer? What happens when a soldier transfers and then doesn't promote? Can I transfer but go into reserves?

Your ETS date needs to be 4+ years out from when you initiate the transfer
