Hi everyone! This post is long but I hope to receive your help from here. ❤️
Last month, I was in a 4-car rear-end collision, and I was the 2nd car in the chain. I filed the claim on the ones hitting me from behind. The third car behind me, which has Progressive as their insurer. So, I provided the images of my damaged car on the internet for them to do virtual inspections.
At first, Progressive contacted me that they would be unable to cover the damages due to limited coverage, if I remember correctly. Recently, they; however, called me again and told me that my car would be totaled and they wanted me to bring my damaged car to the nearby auto body so that they could tow it to their loss yard to re-do the inspection again. I followed their instructions, and they told me that the inspection/evaluation is done for now and they will give me follow-ups next week. Also, they wanted me to update the car’s title because that belongs to someone in my family, but I am the owner of the car and drive that all the time.
So, I am very worried about what is gonna happen to my car. I am now assuming that I would be paid based on the book value of the car or I can buy it back from that insurance but with a salvage title. I can be wrong with these assumptions, but these are things I am thinking of right now.
May I have everyone’s insights and recommendations of what I should do next? If my car got totaled, how can I make sure I will not be at a disadvantaged to be underpaid because that is the goal of every insurance, low ball offer the customer and make money. Thank you so much!
Fyi: I drove a Cadillac 2011, CTS-4 in Mass. Geico is my insurance
